Mumbai : The Maharashtra government Saturday said seven flyovers would be built at a cost of Rs.2.13 billion in Thane as part of a makeover plan for the city adjoining Mumbai.
Public Works Minister Anil Deshmukh said the tendering process for all the flyovers would be taken up immediately and work on them would start by January next year. All the flyovers should be completed within 18 months of construction, the minister said.
Deshmukh said the longest of these flyovers would be at the Kapurbawadi Junction in Thane city, which will cost Rs.1.25 billion. It will be 3.8 km long with a twin carriageway of four lanes each.
The Patlipada and Waghbill flyovers would be the shortest, costing Rs.90 million each.
The Maharashtra State Roads Development Corporation, which is overseeing the work, has appointed civil engineering firm, S.N. Bhobe & Associates Pvt Ltd as the consultant for the megaproject, the minister said.
The flyovers are expected to ease the massive traffic congestion in and around Thane city and the connecting junctions between Mumbai-Thane at Dahisar checkpost, Thane-Ghodbunder and Thane-Bhiwandi.
