New Delhi : The Congress leadership Saturday cleared the names of 53 candidates, including almost all cabinet ministers, for next month’s Delhi assembly elections but the official announcement would be made only after Diwali, party sources said.
The list was sent to the Delhi Congress office, a senior party leader said.
“Nearly all the sitting MLAs have been cleared for candidature. There was consensus among the members of the Central Election Committee to show faith in the work done by the MLAs in last five years,” the leader added.
The sources said the remaining candidates would be finalised in the next few days.
The Congress with 47 seats in the 70-member house has been ruling Delhi for last 10 years. Elections are scheduled for Nov 29 and the counting of votes will take place Dec 8.
