New Delhi : At least 50 cases of defacement of the city have been registered across Delhi within a day, police said Saturday, with parties getting into the campaigning mode for the assembly elections next month.
“These 50 cases have been registered by police in the last 24 hours. Investigations will be carried out,” said Delhi Police’s spokesman Rajan Bhagat.
The cases were registered under the West Bengal Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1976, for putting up posters and hoardings illegally, police said.
Delhi Police have also formed an election cell to look after police arrangements ahead of the Nov 29 polls. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajit Kumar Singla is heading the cell that will function round the clock.

Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal Saturday also briefed senior officers about enforcing the model code of conduct ahead of the elections.
As per the guidelines, the permission for public meetings will be granted by police on the first come first serve basis. The booking for a venue can be made not more than 72 hours in advance and only one booking will be allowed at a given time.
