New Delhi: The Jamia Millia Islamia will hold its Annual Convocation on October 30 wherein honoris causa degrees shall be given to Dr Kapila Vatsyayan (leading scholar of Indian art and architecture), Naseeruddin Shah (actor), Shabana Azmi (actor, social activist and former Member of the Rajya Sabha) and Dr Asghar Ali Engineer (social reformer and theologian).
The Convocation shall be presided over by Kannada writer and critic Dr U. R Ananthamurthy (former President of the Sahitya Akademi and recipient of the Padma Shri and the Jnanpith Award).
A total of 3213 degrees/diplomas and 105 Ph.Ds have been awarded during this year. Over 130 Gold Medals are expected to be awarded to toppers. Of this total figure, on the basis of confirmations received by the University, 2500 students are expected to attend the Convocation where degrees shall be awarded for graduate, post-graduate, M Phil and Ph D courses. All degrees are for the academic year 2006-07.
