Beijing : After a gap of one year, India and China is holding a fresh round of boundary talks here today amid strains in ties in the wake of attempts by Beijing to block a consensus on the India-specific waiver at the NSG meet in Vienna earlier this month.
National Security Adviser M K Narayanan is heading the Indian delegation at the two-day talks while the Chinese side will be represented by State Counsellor Dai Bingguo.
The meeting will explore ways to resolve the festering boundary dispute that was affecting Sino-Indian ties.
This is the 12th round of boundary negotiations between the two sides since they appointed Special Representatives in 2003 to resolve the decades-old issue from a political perspective after the diplomatic parleys failed to yield results.
The latest round of talks comes a year after the last dialogue between the two sides on the boundary issue here.
The two Special Representatives — Narayanan and Dai — are also expected to touch upon other issues of mutual interest during their talks.
Beijing’s stand at the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) came as a rude shock to New Delhi, which conveyed its unhappiness to Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi during his visit to New Delhi last week.
