La Paz : A Parliament Committee from the European Union expressed support for the democratic process going on in Bolivia, amid a destabilizing campaign promoted by opposition groups.
The five-member delegation arrived to Bolivia on Monday and met with President Evo Morales, Vice President Alvaro Garcia and other officials.
At the end of the meeting, the EU Parliament Deputy Speaker, Rumanian Gabriela Cretu, expressed support for democracy and the willingness to carry out efforts leading to peace in this South American country.
She said this visit will allow them to get a clearer picture of reality in this Andean nation, beyond what the media may say.
The committee is also expected to meet with opposition and religious leaders, as well as social sectors and indigenous people.
Their visit responds to a request made by Bolivian Ambassador to Belgium, Christian Inchauste, who urged the EU to play a more active role in the Bolivian conflict.
The EU is among observers attending the talks among government and eight prefects to find a solution to the current political dispute.
