Islamabad : Regional policy experts, cited by The Post newspaper, warned that US attacks on Pakistani territory endanger the current fragile democratic government in Islamabad.
Those air and land raids against alleged redoubt of rebels in the Pakistani tribal region bordering with Afghanistan spoil the force and moral of the current authorities which are trying to defeat Islamic extremism by their own means, noted The Post agency.
The situation is even more controversial since US President George W, Bush expressed his wish to capture or kill Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden before concluding his term of office, warned Barnett Rubin, Director of the International Cooperation Center of New York University.
By Rubin’s opinion the strategy of facing the problem of Islamist members in the tribal region could be at a long-term but it is more acceptable than Washington’s idea of beating activists in the area.
President Asif Ali Zardari said in his recent visit to US that the struggle against Islamic extremism is a fight to win the people’s hearts and minds.
