In wartime there will be insufficient rescue and chemical and biological warfare units and Israel will have to rely on the population itself, Haaretz paper quoted on Tuesday official at the Department for Population at the Home Front Command Col. Hilik Sofer as saying.

“We need to train for a reality in which during war missiles can fall on any part of the country without warning,” he said.

“We want the citizens to understand that war can happen tomorrow morning,” he added.
The five-day exercise, which will begin on May 31, will test a number of scenarios that include missile attacks with conventional and non-conventional warheads, fired by Hezbollah, Syria, or Hamas, he pointed out.

Palestinian missiles hit several areas of Israel during the Israeli attack on Gaza Strip last January.

Israel fear that if it attacks Iranian nuclear facilities, Tehran will respond by firing long-distance rockets at it. (end) mzt.ris KUNA 071146 Apr 09NNNN
