Kochi: Noted religious scholar TK Ibrahim Moulvi (75) passed away in Kozhikode. He was the vice-president of the Kozhikode district ad-hoc committee of the Social Democratic Party of India. He was also active in the literary and cultural fields.

TK Ibrahim Moulvi used to write and act in plays against social evils. His play ‘Theeppantham’ (torch of fire) was a strong protest against the social evil of dowry. ‘Duniyavile Subargam’ (the paradise in this world) is another play that Moulvi authored. He has also written several songs. He was the founder of the Azad Kala Mandir (Azad cultural centre) at Kuttiadi.

He was holding the positions of qateeb at Valayannur Juma Masjid, head master of Adukkath Noorul Islam Madrasa, assistant qateeb of Kuttidai Juma Masjid and patron of Cheriakumbalam Mahall in Kozhikode at the time of his demise. Earlier he had served several years as the leader of the Muslim League in the area.

Being a scholar was never a hindrance for him to involve in the problems of the general public. He had once led a protest march along with some natives concerned about environment on the issue of the pollution of the river Kuttiadi.
