Kozhikode: The newly-formed National Investigation Agency has taken over the probe into the case of the twin blasts in Kozhikode. The NIA decided to take over the case reportedly as it was found that some people outside Kerala too might have been involved in the blasts.

Blasts that rocked Kozhikode took place in the two bus stations in the city on March 3, 2006. Several investigations have been carried out under the state police but the real culprits have not yet been found.
The Special Investigation Team led by a Superintendent of Police would reach the state tomorrow. The NIA decided to take up the case reportedly after consultation with the state government. This would be the first case to be investigated by the NIA in South India, after its formation following the Mumbai terror attack.

The NIA has also reportedly decided not to take up the investigation into the Ernakulam Collectorate blast now. The NIA could take the case up but the state government reportedly preferred to continue the investigation under the state police which was nearing the final stage. The NIA got interested in the Kozhikode case reportedly as it had taken place even before the blast in Bengaluru. The Agency reportedly expects to gain important evidence from the investigation.
