Abdullah government neglecting people’s problems: Sayeed

By IANS,

Jammu: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Saturday termed Jammu and Kashmir’s National Conference-led coalition government “apathetic and incomptent”, charging Chief Minister Omar Abdullah with indulging in “juvenile pranks” and neglecting the people and their problems.

“This has led to a mass upsurge. The continuing indifference of the government towards the peoples’ basic problems can cause an ugly situation that may make them lose faith in the democratic system,” PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said, according to a statement released here.

Seeking to remind Abdullah of his duties in providing basic amenities to the people, Sayeed asked the government to focus on the problems of water, electricity and health care, besides providing rations to the people in time.

The PDP patron said that it was an “unprecedented situation” with the people were up in arms essentially because of the government’s “apathy and incompetence”.

Sayeed’s statement comes in the wake of a series of agitations in the state, with the people out on the streets demanding water, power and rations, and others seeking proper jobs.

Charging the National Conference-led government with having done nothing to honour its mandate, he said this could result in disillusioning people who had come out to vote in large numbers to give democracy a chance in the state.

Regretting the government had failed in carrying forward the process of political resolution, Sayeed alleged it had failed in even consolidating the gains made by the government that he had headed 2002-05.
