Help with ‘pani, kitab aur kaam’, Tharoor tells India Inc

By IANS,

New Delhi: Admitting that the government has not been able to meet the basic needs of common man, Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor Friday said that the private sector also needed to “pitch in” in meeting the aspirations for “Pani, Kitab aur Kaam” (water, learning and work).

Speaking at the valedictory session at the quality summit of Confederation of Indian Industry’s Institute of Quality here, Tharoor admitted that the government is yet to meet common man’s basic necessity of “roti, kapada and maakan” (food, clothes and houses).

He asked India Inc. to pitch in by partnering with government to ease this crucial societal requirement and further including issues pertaining to “pani, kitab aur kaam”, according to a CII release.

Noting that India is not the same as it was two decades ago in the eyes of the western world, he asked Indian industries to seize the emerging global opportunities as the IT industry has done and show that they can purse quality without government standing by in the way.
