Narang shoots double gold in Asian Air Gun

New Delhi: Gagan Narang shot an individual gold and also helped the India bag the team gold in the Asian Air Gun Shooting Championships in Doha Friday.

According to information received here, Gagan shot an impressive qualification score of 597 out of 600 and followed it up with a final score of 104 for a total of 701 to win the gold.

The team comprising Narang, P.T. Raghunath and Sanjeev Rajput won the gold with a score of 1782. Silver was won by China (1779) while Iran (1764) bagged the bronze.

Raghunath finished fourth with a score of 696.9 (593+103.9) while Rajput was sixth with 693.1 (592+101.1).

Beijing Olympic silver medallist Zhu Qinan of China also shot a good score of 700.7 (596+104.7) but had to be content with the silver medal. The bronze medal was won by Shengbo Zhao of China with a score of 698.4 (595+103.4).

In the junior men’s air rifle event, India’s Chain Singh won the bronze with a score of 691.5 (591+100.5).

In the youth category, Navdeep Singh Rathore shot 585 to qualify for the inaugural edition of the Youth Olympics to be held in 2010.
