Uttar Pradesh police shoot at youth for refusing money

Lucknow : Two Uttar Pradesh policemen have been accused of shooting at a youth who refused to give them extortion money, officials said Thursday.

Arun Kumar Mishra, who received bullet injuries in a shoulder and a leg, alleged that he was fired by the policemen in Kanpur Dehat (rural) district Wednesday night, deputy superintendent of police D.K. Singh said.

Kanpur Dehat is some 130 km from here.

“A case against two police constables has been registered,” Singh told IANS on telephone.

According to the police, the two accused police personnel stopped Mishra near the Aaliapur locality and demanded money. Mishra refused and they fired at him and escaped, said the police.

Mishra is receiving treatment in a hospital.

District police chief R.K. Swarnkar told IANS: “An inquiry has been initiated against the two constables, who are associated with the Sikandra police station.”
