AMU Medical college to be upgraded to level of AIIMS: VC

Bhopal: The Government of India has approved three major projects submitted by the Aligarh Muslim University namely (i) to upgrade the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College to the level of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, (ii) the action plan for improving the academic standard of the school run by the Aligarh Muslim University and (iii) the IAS Coaching Academy specially sanctioned by the Ministry of HRD.

Welcoming the decision of the Cabinet, AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. P K Abdul Azis reportedly told media persons at a press conference today that Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University will be upgraded to the level of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi at an estimated cost of Rs. 150 crores.

Prof. Azis said now J.N. Medical College will become one of the foremost Medical institutions of the country where all facilities may be made available to the patients.

According to a Press release issued by Dr. Rahat Abrar, Public Relations Officer AMU, the University will appoint a high Power Advisory Committee and engage a professional consultant for implementation. The University intends to setup a state-of-the-art Cardiology Center with the provisions of Bypass surgery, Angiography and Angioplasty.

In order to cater to the needs of minority students of North India, the MHRD Minister also announced the setting up of IAS Coaching Academy at the Aligarh Muslim University.

The Action Plan for improving the academic standard of the schools by the University at a cost of Rs. 127 crores. The CBSE proposal, in this regard, prepared in consultation with AMU, envisages the total of Rs. 127 crores during the XI Plan. It also includes taking over the A.B.K. Union High School. The proposal includes enhancement of facilities on par with CBSE/Kendriya Vidhyalaya Schools.

Prof. Abdul Azis thanked the Government of India for sanctioning major up-gradation projects submitted by the Aligarh Muslim University. The Press Conference was also addressed by Prof. V.K.
