Sultanov to head to Mideast next Sunday

Moscow : Russian president’s envoy to the Middle East and Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Sultanov will travel to the Middle East next Sunday, it was announced here on Friday.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement released here that Sultanov will tour Israel, the Palestinian territories, Amman and Damascus in order to contribute to the settlement of the situation created by the serious escalation in the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, the Interfax news agency reported that 185 citizens of Russia and the CIS countries have left the Gaza Strip to their country in light of the deteriorating situation in Gaza.

The agency added that dozens of Russian citizens who have declared their desire to leave have not been able to reach the Erez crossing because of the deteriorating security situation there.

On the other hand, the Russian government decided to provide emergency aid to residents of the Gaza Strip to help alleviate their suffering due to the blockade and hostilities imposed by Israel.
A statement issued here said that Russian aid included food, medicine and tents.
