UNHRC Majority Vote Condemns Israel

Geneva : Majority vote at the UN Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) along denounces of the horrors committed in Gaza crowned a strong condemnation of Israel.

The document promoted by Cuba as leader of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM), the Islamic Conference, and the CHR Arab and African Groups, was approved by 33-1-13 votes.

The NAM lashed in Geneva at Israel”s ruthless military offensive that targets civilians, hospitals, schools and mosques.

Cuban Ambassador Juan Antonio Fernandez reminded that while the world celebrated the end of 2008 the Palestinians, including women and children, were slaughtered by Israel”s raids.

The Cuban diplomat exposed the overwhelming images of ruined infrastructure, blackout, water shortage and the wounded doing worse because of poor medical services.

The resolution lashes at the raids that so far have killed over 900 Palestinians, the systematic violation of their human rights and sapping of their infrastructure.

It also recommends sending observers to probe the abuses the Israeli military have committed.

Palestinian Ambassador Ibrahim Khraishi said that his country is target of a barbaric aggression which he called law of the jungle.

On behalf of the 57 members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Pakistan called the developments in Gaza “disproportionate use of force, slaughter of innocent civilians and violation of UN refugee camps.”

John Ging, head of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), termed alarming the number of civilian victims caused by Israeli aggression on Gaza.

The diplomat called the political leaders in Gaza, in Israel and the world to stop the hostilities that have killed over 900 Palestinians and left over 4,000 wounded in just 17 days.

Israel stepped up Monday its air, ground and sea attacks on the capital of Gaza Strip, the south and on Rafah that shares border with Egypt, to allegedly destroy the tunnels that Hamas uses to smuggle weapons.
