Mumbai ATS to probe Sri Rama Sene-Purohit links

By IANS,

Mumbai : The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) will investigate the alleged links between the Sri Rama Sene, which attacked young woman in a Mangalore pub last week, and the key accused in the Malegaon bombing case, a top official said here Thursday.

A Mumbai ATS team will leave for Mangalore soon to investigate the alleged links between Malegaon blast accused Lt. Col. Purohit and Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik, ATS chief K.P. Raghuvanshi said. But he declined to elaborate on this.

The move follows revelations of Purohit that he was acquainted with Muthalik, police sources said.

Purohit is currently in custody charged under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), while Muthalik was arrested Wednesday – four days after a group of 40 activists of the Sri Rama Sene barged into the pub Amnesia – The Lounge in Mangalore and bashed up and molested a group of young women, claiming the women were “violating traditional Indian values”.

The investigators, who have learnt that Muthalik visited Pune several times in the past, will now attempt to find out if the two groups are linked, the official said.

Many Malegaon blast accused had links with the Abhinav Bharat, a Pune-based Hindu right wing organisation.
