New Delhi : The Congress will have its own election manifesto rather than a common one with its United Progressive Alliance (UPA) partners, the party said Thursday.
“The Congress will have its own manifesto and in states where we have alliance partners, we would seek votes for them,” party spokesperson Janardan Dwivedi told reporters here after a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC).
The CWC meet, chaired by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and attended by 29 members, discussed the poll strategy ahead of the Lok Sabha elections to be held by May.
“All pre-poll alliances will be at the state level with the existing partners and if any state unit of the party sees a possibility for some other alliances, it will be formulated in coordination with the All India Congress Committee,” Dwivedi said.
On partnership possibilities, he said, “An alliance is basically a game of numbers. It depends on who gets how many seats.”
“Hypothetically speaking, if the Congress gets absolute majority, the situation will be different,” he added.
Asked if the UPA was disintegrating, he said: “Of course, there is UPA. But UPA does not fight elections. It is the political parties in UPA that contest elections.”
