Delhi dentist convicted for husband’s murder

By IANS,

Chandigarh: A Delhi-based dentist was Saturday convicted for the chilling murder six years ago of her husband, who headed one of the biggest security agencies in the country. The quantum of punishment will be announced Monday.

Swapna, a dental surgeon with New Delhi’s Apollo hospital had used her clinical skills to murder her husband Mandiv Sapra in the five-star Hotel Mount View here in July 2003, a local court ruled.

Police officials who investigated the crime said that Swapna had murdered Sapra, in his mid-40s, the executive director of Delhi-based private security agency ‘Group-4 Securitas’ Guarding Ltd, by using surgical scissors to cut his windpipe in the washroom of their hotel suite.

Sapra’s body was found lying in a pool of blood while Swapna was found in an unconscious state in the suite.

She told police that an intruder entered their room at night and assaulted them, killing Sapra.

However, her contradictory statements made the police suspect her and her questioning blew the lid off the murder.

The couple had wed in 2000, it being Swapna’s second marriage and Sapra’s third.

Their relations were disturbed as Sapra did not want Swapna’s 12-year-old son from her previous marriage to inherit his property worth millions of rupees, police said.

Sapra’s security agency was one of the biggest in India, supplying private security personnel to several private sector clients, including banks.
