Mumbai: The management committee (MAJLIS-E-MUNTAZIMA) of Jamiat Ulama Maharashtra (JUM) yesterday met to elect new president, vice presidents, general secretary and treasurer.
According to a press release issued by JUM Haji Mustaqeem Ahsan Azmi was unanimously elected president of JUM. Notably, with the death of the former JUM president Haji Shamsuddin last year the office had fallen vacant and Haji Ramazan Quraishi was working as the temporary president. Quraishi now has been made treasurer (Khazin) and Mufti Yusuf assistant treasurer.
Nizamuddin Raeen (Mumbai), Advocate Shamsuddin (Malegaon), Maulana Muhammad Saleem Milli (Nanded) and Hafiz Masood Qasmi (Nagpur) were elected vice presidents while Gulzar Ahmad Azmi was appointed as general secretary.
The meeting was attended by 453 members from Nagpur, Akola, Nanded, Latur, Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, Malegaon, Thane and Mumbai among other Maharashtra districts.
The meeting adulated the work being done by Maulana Azad Minorities Financial Development Corporation (MAMFDC) and demanded that its fund be increased.
The attendants also thanked the state government for appointing the first Muslim as the state home minister Arif Naseem Kahan and they praised the services rendered by him so far.
In the meeting the members demanded the restoration of the minority status of Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia and that Muslim students be offered 50% reservation in each of their departments.
Meanwhile, in another press release by the Mahmood Madani faction- general secretary of JUM Hafiz Nadeem has announced that the management committee which right now comprises 675 members will hold meeting to elect office holders on June 13.
