Patna: While UPA government is going to introduce Women’s Reservation Bill within 100 days there is a growing demand to review the Bill and reserve some seats for SC, ST and backward classes including Muslims women. First raised by the Muslim organizations now even political parties like SP, JD (U) RJD have joined in.
The Minority Cell of RJD launched here a committee under party MLC Tanvir Hasan to run a movement for especial quota of Muslim backward classes women in Women’s Reservation Bill and also to look into other problems faced by the Muslims.
Mr. Tanvir Hasan said the RJD Minority Cell opposes the Women’s Reservation Bill in its present form which has been moved in the Rajya Sabha. “The committee would launch an agitation against Women’s Reservation Bill in its present form because Bill neglected Muslim and backward classes women” he said.
“After independence only four Muslim women have been elected for Rajya Sabha. Right now Bihar assembly has 32 women members but not a single Muslim woman is there” said Mr. Tanvir Hasan adding “In case, Muslims and SC, ST women would not be given special quota in the Bill their number will further go down. Thus they will be deprived of their rights.”
Mr. Hasan who was accompanied by several other RJD leaders at press conference also announced that the committee would prepare a report on discrimination against the minority community as well as Urdu language by the state government. He said that the committee would also launch an agitation seeking implementation of Central schemes meant for the welfare of the minority community.
