Mumbai : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Thursday searched and sealed two houses of suspended Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) parliamentarian Padamsingh Patil, who is allegedly involved in the murder of his cousin and Congress leader Pavan Raje Nimbalkar.
CBI Joint Director R.R. Singh said the searches were conducted at the Osmanabad home of Patil and another at his native village Ter, belonging to his father.
Both the houses have been sealed. They will be unsealed after the occupants return, according to a source.
Patil, who faces investigation for his alleged role in the 2006 murder of Nimbalkar, was elected to the Lok Sabha from Osmanabad constituency in the May 2009 elections on an NCP ticket.
Following the CBI charges of murdering the Congress leader and his driver Samad Qazi in July 2006, Patil was suspended by the party earlier this monh.
The CBI sleuths also raided the Terna Sugar factory in the town, the money matters relating to which was one of the conspiracy angles in the Nimbalkar murder. A simultaneous raid was also carried out on the Terna Trust offices in Mumbai.
Also raided were the homes of three more key accused – Satish Mandade in Latur and Mohan Shukla and Parasmal Jain in Mumbai.
The CBI official said the CBI recovered incriminating documents and photographs during the raids Thursday.
While Patil has been named an accused in the killing of Nimbalkar and Qazi, Mandade and Shukla have been accused of giving the murder contract to Jain and his sharpshooter Dinesh Tiwari on behalf of Nimbalkar. All of them are at present in custody.
Last week, the CBI raided the two Mumbai homes of Patil and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunitions, sophisticated walkie-talkie sets, documents, computers and discs.
