JMM to form Jharkhand government if UPA wins

By IANS,

Ranchi : The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) said Friday it hoped to form a government in the state under Shibu Soren if the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) wins the Lok Sabha polls.

Mathura Prasad Mahto, chief whip of JMM, told reporters that if the UPA won the April-May general election, the cabinet will revoke the suspension of the Jharkhand assembly.

Jharkhand came under President’s rule Jan 19. The 82-member assembly has been suspended, not dissolved.

The President’s rule was imposed after no alliance came forward to form a government in the state after Soren quit as chief minister in January.

The Congress has now forged an alliance with the JMM to fight the Lok Sabha election in Jharkhand. The Congress will contest seven and the JMM five Lok Sabha seats. The RJD will put up candidates in two seats.

In the assembly, the JMM-Congress-RJD combine has 42 members. Two seats are vacant.
