Lucknow, March 21 (IANS) Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s daughter Priyanka Gandhi will be on a two-day tour of her mother’s Rae Bareli parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh from Monday, a party official said Saturday.
“Priyankaji is coming here to encourage our party workers ahead of the Lok Sabha polls,” Shiv Ganesh, a member of the state assembly, told IANS over the telephone from Rae Bareli.
During her stay in the constituency, Gandhi will address meetings at various places and interact with grassroots-level workers, Ganesh said.
Even though many party workers want Priyanka Gandhi to contest the Lok Sabha polls, she has steadfastly ruled out her entry into active politics.
“I do not have any political ambitions. I am here to strengthen the party and campaign for my brother (Rahul Gandhi) and my mother as they will be busy campaigning for the party across the country,” Priyanka Gandhi had told reporters March 3 in Amethi, which her brother represents in the Lok Sabha.
