Bihar minister resigns after denial of ticket

By IANS,

Patna : A Bihar minister resigned from the Nitish Kumar government Sunday after the ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) denied him the ticket to contest the Lok Sabha poll, an official said.

Agriculture Minister Nagmani resigned after the JD-U did not include his name in the list of 25 candidates announced to contest the parliamentary polls.

“Nagmani-ji has resigned from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Nitish Kumar in protest of denial of ticket to contest the polls,” Suchitra Sinha, Nagmani’s wife and former minister, told reporters here.

His resignation was accepted by Nitish Kumar and sent to the governor for acceptance, an official in the Chief Minister’s Office said.

Nagmani, who belongs to Kushwaha, an agrarian backward caste, was keen to contest from Ujiarpur parliamentary constituency but the JD-U denied him the ticket.

Unhappy over this, Nagmani has called a meeting of his supporters Tuesday in Patna.

Four days ago, Nagmni’s supporters also vandalised the party headquarters and disrupted a press conference to insist that he be given a ticket to contest the parliamentary poll.
