Karroubi registers for presidential elections

Tehran : Former Majlis Speaker Mehdi Karroubi registered as a candidate for the next presidential elections to be held on June 12.

He is head of the Etemad-e Melli (National Trust) political party who was the first to announce his tendency to run in the elections late September, 2008.

He ran as a candidate in the previous presidential elections in Iran as well and became third after ex-president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, respectively, in the first round of the 2005 Presidential Elections.

Karroubi was a member of the Iranian parliament for a number of years and served as the Majlis Speaker in the 6th parliament and also had been first Majlis (Parliament) vice-speaker for several years.
