He made the remarks while talking to IRNA on the sidelines of the third meeting of the preliminary committee of the 2010 NPT Review Conference.

He reiterated that producing nuclear energy for civilian utility is a main pillar of the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

He added that the NPT member states are duty bound to fulfill their commitments to the treaty citing obligation of the nuclear states to disarm.

He urged all world states, including NPT members and non-members, to pursue dialogue within the NPT framework.

Currently the issue of disarmament is interrelated with that of non-proliferation, the Egyptian envoy said, adding that the issue of non-proliferation in the Mideast region is of prime importance.

He underlined the need for setting a timetable for materializing the plans on disarmament throughout the globe.

Abdulaziz said Israel must respect the international convention on disarmament as well acknowledging that Iran’s nuclear program is for civilian purpose.
