Upto 200 militants killed in Pakistan’s northwest in 24 hours: army

Islamabad : The security forces have killed up to 200 miscreants in 24 hours in the insurgency-hit Swat and Shangla areas, the army said on Sunday.

According to an army statement, the security forces engaged miscreants at various places in Swat valley, including Mingora, the main city, on Sunday, killing 50-60 miscreants.

One soldier was also killed and another injured in Shangal area, said the statement.

It added that indiscriminate mortar firing and planting of Improvise Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the streets and roads by the miscreants in the populated areas of Mingora and nearby areas resulted into civilian casualties.

The security forces have warned the citizens to remain vigilant and careful as the miscreants have planted IEDs in various areas of Mingora city and district Swat to put the blame of civilian causalities onto the security forces, the statement said.

Miscreants also destroyed 2 schools at Barikot and Maniar areas of Swat, it said.

The army added that an Imam or prayers leader of a mosque in Mingora mosque has been murdered by the miscreants.

Based on the statement, insurgents’ training camp at Banai Baba area of Shangla was destroyed and their dead bodies and weapons were found in the area.

It added that between 140-150 insurgents were reported to be killed at Banai Baba training camp and that the death of the miscreants was confirmed by Shangla district coordination office.

The statement said that the offensives also continued in Lower Dir and Buner distict, inflicting casualties on the militants.
