Washington : Michael Bloomberg won third term as New York Mayor, it was announced late Tuesday.
Bloomberg’s victory was hard earned, where he led his competitor Comptroller William Thomson only four percentage points in the eight-candidate field.
An election-eve poll showed that Bloomberg was comfortably ahead of Thompson.
Bloomberg, ran the most expensive self-financed campaign ever, spending about USD 100 million of his own money, according to reports.
Also, former US attorney Chris Christie defeated Democratic Governor Jon S. Corzine, becoming the governor of New Jersey, giving the Republicans a “rare” victory in the state.
According to reports, Christie led Corzine 49 percent to 44 percent with 80 percent of the ballots counted.
Meanwhile, Republican Bob McDonnell also won the Virginia governor’s race by a huge lead, with 59 percent of the votes against 41 percent that went to Democrat Creigh Deeds.
