Haryana government doctor jailed for corruption

Chandigarh : A court in Haryana’s Narnaul town has sentenced a government doctor to three years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting him for corruption, officials of the state’s vigilance bureau said Friday.

The court of special judge in Narnaul convicted doctor Ram Mehar, the government medical officer posted at the community health centre in Kanina in Mahendragarh district on two counts.

The doctor was prosecuted under sections 7 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and sentenced to two years’ rigorous imprisonment with a Rs.2,000 fine under section 7 of the act and three years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs.3,000 under section 13.

Both sentences are to run concurrently.

Vigilance officials said the doctor was caught last year while accepting a bribe of Rs.5,000 from a person to give him a fake medical certificate.
