Trial in Delhi serial blasts case to begin soon

By IANS,

New Delhi: More than a year after serial blasts rocked the national capital in September 2008, a city court is likely to begin the trial of 11 members of the Indian Mujahideen accused of involvement in the terror attack.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja Thursday transferred the files on the cases to the district judge for moving them to a sessions court. The transfer of cases is necessary as the accused are alleged to have committed serious crimes like murder and attempt to murder, which can only be tried by a sessions court.

The order came after all the 11 accused were brought to the court from jails across India.

Proceedings will start when the court again hears the case Dec 5.

The court had on Nov 12 issued warrants against 11 accused for carrying out serial blasts in the capital. The Gujarat police earlier failed to bring them before it.

Saif, Zeeshan Ahmed, Mohd Shakeel, Zia-ur Rehman, Saquib Nissar, Quamuddin Kapadia and Mohd Sadiq Sheikh, who have been charge sheeted in blasts cases here, are in jail in Ahmedabad.

Mansoor Asghar Peerbhoy, Mobin Kader Sheikh, Akbar Ismail Chaudhary and Asif Basir Sheikh, who are accused of sending terror e-mails to different media houses just minutes before the serial blasts, have also been jailed in Ahmedabad.

A series of blasts rocked the national capital on Sep 13 last year, killing 26 persons and injuring 135.
