Court dismisses Babloo Srivastava’s plea of dropping MCOCA

By IANS,

New Delhi : Delhi High Court Thursday dismissed a plea of mobster Babloo Srivastava that charges under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against him be dropped.

Dismissing the plea of Srivastava, a division bench comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Ajit Bharioke also imposed a fine of Rs.25,000 on him for filing an appeal with no sufficient ground.

Last year, a city court had charged him under MCOCA and he had challenged it in the high court.

Srivastava was charged under MCOCA provisions for threatening to kidnap a Delhi-based businessman for ransom.

The Special Cell, an anti-terrorist wing of Delhi Police, had arrested him July 27, 2006.

The police alleged that Srivastava and his close aide Fazl-ur-Rehman, were running an extortion racket in the capital during 1983-97.

Fazl-ur-Rehman was arrested Aug 6 last year from Sunauli near the India-Nepal border for allegedly kidnapping another businessman and demanding ransom from his family.

More than 40 criminal cases, including those relating to murder, extortion, kidnapping and attempt to murder, are pending against the duo.
