NGOs to open evening education centre for Bengali migrant children in Delhi

By TwoCircles.net news desk,

Patna: When there are millions of children – both in rural areas and metro cities like Delhi and Mumbai – who are deprived of education for lack of resources and opportunities, it is good news that two NGOs of Delhi have planned to start evening education center for children of Bengali migrant families in the National Capital.

Delhi-based NGOs Asha Parivar and Green Flag Waste Workers Union are jointly going to set up the centre on 2nd October 2009 in sector 26, Prakash Vihar of Rohini near Shahbad Daulatpur in Delhi. The area has around 800 migrant residents.

These residents live with no civic amenities; thus their condition is extremely miserable. This center has come out with the intention to impart basic formal education to two types of children of these families: Firstly the children who are not at all admitted due to rag picking throughout the day and due to lack of residential documents in Delhi; Secondly the children who are merely admitted to school but lack encouragement and importance of education.

Talking to TwoCircles.net over phone Mr. Faisal Khan of Asha Parivar said: “We are working for the empowerment of helpless people and we have decided to educate children of Bengali migrants because they are tortured in the name of Bangladeshis and are put behind the bar by police when these poor men refuse to pay them money which they earn after lots of efforts.”

He also informed that with the help of other organizations they have a plan to hold a protest in the capital demanding an end to khaki terrorism and give these poor people their proper rights. He also revealed that these migrant have ID proof provided by Indian government but police brand them as Bangladeshi only to harass them and get money from them.

The organizations aim to make these poor people ready to compete with proper guidelines. Besides this, they would campaign door to door and encourage their parents to help them in imparting the education.

The centre will be inaugurated at 5 pm on 2nd October.
