New Delhi: Delhi Police Friday arrested a 27-year-old businessman for sending threatening and filthy text messages to politicians, including Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor, using SIM cards procured in someone else’s name.

“Narender Khosla, who is a manpower supplier, used documents of a gym instructor Manick Verma to procure the SIM cards and sent text messages to settle scores with Verma with whom he had a personal rivalry,” said a senior police officer.

“Khosla is married and is a resident of Rajender Nagar area. He was reportedly angry with Verma for being close to a woman in whom he was also interested,” the officer added.

Earlier police investigations had revealed that two mobile connections were bought using documents of Verma.

Verma had told police that he had lost his driving licence some time ago and the police believed some one was using the same to buy mobile phone connections fraudulently.

“Investigations revealed that one of the two connections procured using the documents of Verma was later transferred to another name using different set of identification papers. The SIM cards were procured from two different shops in Karol Bagh on April 3 and April 7,” the officer said.

Nearly 100 text messages were sent to politicians, including Shashi Tharoor, Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Brinda Karat and Congress’ leaders Rashid Alvi and Sandeep Dikshit in the last fortnight.

According to rules, mobile phone connections can be sold only after getting address proof and a photograph from the customers.
