Special squad to probe revenue fraud in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government will set up an investigating squad

to deal with the rising land and property frauds in the state.

According to a highly placed source, the Special Investigation Unit will comprise two senior Indian Administrative Service and Indian Police Service officers respectively at the state level besides seven other officers in the core group.

The investigation unit will have branches right upto the district level.

“Alongside we are also working to overhaul the land revenue code to plug the loopholes which are being exploited by fraudsters to make a killing. This is also being conjoined with a similar overhaul of the land record maintenance system as well as its computerization to provide a comprehensive reality check at short notice. A sum of Rs.50 crore has been earmarked for the purpose,” he added.

Rapid industrialisation and fast paced urbanization in Gujarat has seen cases of land and property frauds spiral, he added.
