Azamgarh: A day after plain-clothed policemen picked Shahzad Ahmed, an alleged absconder in the Batla House case, from his house in Khalispur in Azamgarh, the local community elders today descended the village to enquire about the incident and console the family members.
Villagers told the community leaders that a large number of plain-clothed armed men barged in the house of Shahzad around 3:30 pm on 1st February and took him away. They brandished weapon and used abusive language to terrorize house members. After the incident, Maulana Tahir Madani (General Secretary, Rashtriya Ulama Council) and other elders of the village enquired S.O. Bilariyaganj about the whereabouts of Shahzad. They wanted a written acknowledgement of the reported incident given to S.O. in the form of an application but this request was turned down. However, on persistent demand S.O. contacted higher Police officials and informed about an imminent Press Conference in which the arrest of Shahzad from his house in village Khalispur was announced.
The community leaders who visited the village today and consoled the family members of Shahzad included Dr Javed Akhtar, president, Association for Welfare, Medical, Educational and Legal Assistance (AWMELA), Maulana Tahir Madni (Ulama Council), Wasim Ahmad (former MLA, Samajwadi Party) and Wasiuddin (social activist).
