BJP takes a dig at Congress over ‘MNIK’

By IANS,

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday took a dig at the Congress for treating Shah Rukh Khan’s film release as a “national problem” but not showing the same alarcity in “dealing with problems like price rise and terrorism”.

“We oppose stance of Shiv Sena on the movie and the controversy is unnecessary. But the Congress-led governments at the centre and in Maharashtra have tried to project it as a national problem,” BJP spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told IANS.

He said the party hoped the Congress “had shown the same alertness to tackle issues like price rise and terrorism”.

His comments came a day after BJP president Nitin Gadkari said in Thiruvananthapuram that his party differed with its ally Shiv Sena in its opposition to the movie.

Speaking to NDTV in New Delhi, senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi was severe in his criticism of Shiv Sena.

“When the movie is not indecent or anti-national, why is it being opposed?” he said.

He termed the opposition to the movie as “divisive”.

The BJP has publicly distanced itself from stance of Shiv Sena on contentious issues in the last few days.

After disagreeing with Shiv Sena’s `Mumbai for Marathis’ slogan, the BJP has been categorically in rejecting the party’s opposition to the release of “My Name IS Khan” over Shah Rukh’s comments for the inclusion of Pakistani players in the Indian Premier League.
