Kolkata: After piloting India to another Test win by taking a bagful of wickets, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh Thursday lashed out at the media for showing the players in poor light whenever they fail on the field.
“Thanks to all the media, they create sensations that Bhajji is not bowling, that Bhajji is doing this, doing that,” Harbhajan said sarcastically at the media meet after the second Test match against South Africa that the hosts won by an innings and 57 runs.
Harbhajan finished with match figures of 8/123.
Cut up with the media for running him down, Harbhajan said :”I have been hearing a lot of things from them but today they were at the receiving end. They should be getting that kind of treatment because they should know what to show on national television and what not to show.”
The offie told mediapersons here the cricketers played for the country with lot of passion and were disappointed to see “what characters they (a section of the media) make out of us.”
“If I don’t do well on the ground, they will show us as ‘3 Idiots’ and Harbhajan is one of the idiots, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the other. That is not right. I know it sounds funny but it is not. It is a shame and it should not be done.”
“But if that is the way you want to sell your programmes, we are not worried about that. I was there for a bigger purpose, I was playing for my country which was more than anything for me. I won a game for my country and that is a special feeling and I am sure the whole country is happy today,” he said.
