Delhi expected to be foggy Monday

By IANS,

New Delhi: Heavy fog that disrupted air and rail traffic Sunday will blanket the national capital Monday morning as well, an official said.

“Delhi will witness fog tomorrow (Monday) also. Fog will remain till the forenoon and the sky will be mainly clear during the day. The minimum temperature is expected to be around seven degrees Celsius while the maximum is expected to hover around 17 degrees Celsius,” an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) told IANS.

The minimum temperature recorded Sunday was 7.7 degrees Celsius, one degree above average, and the maximum was recorded at 14.3 degrees Celsius, seven degrees below average, the met official said.

“On Sunday, visibility till 9 a.m. was less than 50 meters. The condition improved later in the day,” the official added.

Earlier in the morning, heavy fog descended over the national capital disrupting air and rail traffic.

“The fog triggered chaos at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the morning when runway visibility was less than 50 metres and low-visibility procedures had to be implemented. At least five flights were cancelled,” said an airport spokesperson.

Runway visibility should be at least 150 metres for a plane to take off or land.

Even worse hit was the railways schedule, with numerous trains being delayed or cancelled.

“The heavy fog cover disrupted the schedule of many trains today (Sunday). Thirty-three trains were rescheduled, 51 were delayed by more than three hours and 33 were cancelled or partially cancelled,” a Northern Railways spokesperson said.

“Partially cancelled means that the services on a part of the route were cancelled,” he explained.
