Geneva : Brazilian midfielder Kaka will be among some of the world’s leading footballers of the past and present at a match Monday to raise money for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) said Thursday.
He joins former France international and UNDP goodwill ambassador Zinedine Zidane among those on the field in Lisbon in Monday’s seventh annual Match Against Poverty.
This year organisers have decided that all proceeds from the game, which annually raises funds for global efforts to reduce poverty, will go toward relief and reconstruction efforts in Haiti.
The players, who are brought together by Zidane and fellow UNDP goodwill ambassador Ronaldo, will also include two Haitian players from Portuguese clubs, Jean Sony and Joseph Peterson.
Kaka has stepped in for Ronaldo who starts the Brazilian football season with Corinthians Jan 24, to play in the “Ronaldo, Zidane and Friends” team against a Benfica All Star team.
