Kota (Rajasthan): The ‘National Dussehra Fair’ is organized every year in Kota city of Rajasthan with traditional zeal. Lakhs of people visit it and enjoy with different kinds of fun. At the ongoing fair 17th Oct–4th Nov. 2010, there is a big exhibition of Islamic books and CDs in English, Hindi, Arabic as well as Urdu. Besides, the holy Quran is available here at least in 10 languages.
The most important part of the exhibition is that organizers display the translations of Quranic verses and Ahadees on the board in different languages then they invite the present people—Muslims, non-Muslims–to ask any question about Islam and if any question comes, they answer it in the light of these verses. Besides, non-Muslims buyers of the books are given 10% discount and also Hindi and English translations of the Quran are gifted to them.
The exhibition is organized by Islam Darshan Kendra, a wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind’s Kota chapter. Started in 1980 on just two tables, this book stall now has at least 70 tables with thousands of books covering different topics related to Islam. It comprises different sections like English section, Urdu section, Hindi section and Arabic section. It opens everyday at 6:00 pm and closes at 1:00 am where more than twenty volunteers offer their services daily.
According to the organizers, more than 50,000 people have visited this year’s exhibition so far. Of them 65% were Muslims while 35% were non-Muslims.
The Dussehra Fair has been organized by Municipal Corporation of Kota city every year since long just after Dussehra festival and ends before Diwali festival. This year it started on 17th Oct. and will end on 4th Nov. 2010.
