Literacy rate up in Maoist stronghold of Dantewada

By IANS,

Raipur : Dantewada, labelled as India’s worst Maoist violence-hit district, has recorded a 20 percent rise in literacy rate in the last nine years, the Chhattisgarh government said Monday claiming credit for the development.

The literacy rate in Dantewada district was 24.56 percent in 2001, but has gone up to 45.19 percent with an increase of 20.63 percent, a statement by the government said.

It said the credit for this goes to the state government that worked out on several educational schemes and projects in the past decade.
