Agra : The people’s support to social activist Anna Hazare, whose hunger strike against corruption continued for the fourth day in New Delhi, rose to a massive scale in Agra Friday.

Members of half a dozen tourism organisations collectively took out a candle march to Shastri Chowk in the tourism complex here.

A large number of hoteliers, travel agents, guides, executives and students from the Heritage Institute of Tourism joined the march.

“It’s the first time that I am seeing such groundswell for a cause,” said tourism industry leader Rajiv Gandhi.

Members of business associations and the National Chamber of Industries and Commerce joined another candle march in Sanjay Place, while lawyers at the civil court took out a rally, shouting slogans supporting the Jan Lokpal bill.

The Patanjali Yogpeeth and half a dozen other social organisations also took out a march in the Jaipur House colony early in the day.

At the busy Bijlighar crossing near the Agra Fort, members of the Shivaji Market Association formed a human chain to show solidarity with Anna Hazare.

Firozabad, Mathura, Hathras, Aligarh and several other places in Agra district also saw the mobilisation of people against corruption.

The Jatav Mahapanchayat and Punjabi Association joined the marches and expressed full support to the campaign against corruption.

The junior doctors in the S.N. Medical College also took out a procession to express solidarity with the fasting Anna.

A large number of activists belonging to various organisations sat on a day-long fast at the Shahid Smarak, which has now turned into Agra’s rallying point for anti-graft crusaders.
