Mumbai: The nine Muslim youths in jail for the Maelgaon 2006 blast have agreed for a polygraph, a lie detector test, in MCOCA court on Monday while the court postponed the decision till 2nd September 2011.
National Investigative Agency (NIA) that took over the case from CBI after the confession of Swami Aseemanand demanded to do a polygraph test on Noorul Huda, Shabbir Ahmed, Raees Ahmed, Dr. Salman Farsi, Dr. Farogh, Shaikh Mohammed Ali, Asif Khan, Maulana Zahid, and Abrar Ahmed.
Rohini Salin, prosecution lawyer of NIA argued in the court that it’s necessary to conduct a polygraph test of the accused on their confessional statements. She stressed that after the confessional statement of Swami Aseemanand in 2006 blast case it has become necessary.
She also informed the court, “Maharashtra Anti Terrorist Squad investigated the matter primarily then CBI took over and filed a supplementary chargesheet. Now that NIA has taken over the case it will begin to investigate from the confessional statement and other proofs collected by the earlier agencies.”
Defense lawyers informed the court that all the accused agreed for the polygraph test and therefore Special Judge Y.D. Shinde postponed the decision till 2nd September, 2011.
