Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) : In a case of human sacrifice, a man in this Uttar Pradesh city killed a minor boy after a self-professed godman assured him that the act would make him wealthy overnight, police said Monday. While the man has been arrested, the godman is on the run.
Rajan Kumar, a native of Nauchandi area, Sunday killed the 13-year-old son of Chandan. The boy’s body was recovered Monday on the information Kumar gave the police.
“It’s a case of human sacrifice. While probing the matter – a day after the boy went missing – we came to know that he was last seen with Rajan Kumar in fields,” police inspector Rajesh Verma told reporters in Meerut, some 450 km from Lucknow.
“On suspicion, we detained Kumar and interrogated him in connection with the case. He broke down and confessed to his crime,” he added.
According to police, Kumar killed the boy on the directions of the godman, who had assured him that such an act will turn him wealthy and will also help attain longevity.
“The godman is at large. Efforts are on to nab him,” said Verma.
