Taj sparkles as Yamuna flows full

By IANS,

Agra : Hundreds thronged the Yamuna ghats to pray and perform ‘aarti’ as the river flowed full behind the Taj Mahal, providing a fascinating view to tourists.

“The river in spate is an unusual sight in Agra because for most part of the year it remains a sewage canal,” said tourist guide Ved Gautam.

Said Australian tourist James: “Seeing the river flow towards the Agra Fort from the rear of the Taj is simply gorgeous, breathtaking.”

The aarti was performed Sunday evening and Monday morning to “pay our respectful gratitude to Yamuna maiyya, the lifelife of Agra city,” said Pandit Nandan Shrotriya.

People returned to the Yamuna ghats in Agra, Mathura and Vrindavan to celebrate Janmashtami.

In Mathura, the Dwarkadheesh temple and Sri Krishna Janamasthan and the Bankey Bihari temple in Vrindavan are packed with pilgrims.

The ghats in Mathura are drawing huge crowds.
