Malappuram: Dr PP Muhammed, registrar of the Calicut University, has been selected for the National Best Citizen Award for persons who have excelled in various fields. He was selected for the award for his contributions to bringing Indian languages and culture close to the culture of Arabic language.

Dr Muhammed took doctorate for his paper on the life and literary contributions of Imam Muhammed bin Ismail al Bukhari. He has presented various papers in universities all over the country on Arabic literature and culture. Besides being the registrar of the Calicut University, he is also presently serving as research guide and member of the Arabic studies department in the Kerala and Mahatma Gandhi Universities.
This year¡¯s Best Citizen Award has also been awarded to Joginder Singh (former CCI director), GV Krishnamurthy (former Election Commissioner), Air Chief Marshal NC Suri, businessman Swaraj Paul and Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Sumitra Singh.
