By TCN Staff reporter,

Thrissur: The Madrasah’s in Kerala have been asked to buy Taslima Nasrin’s controversial book ‘Lajja’. The central government have granted 50,000 rupees to 548 Madrasah’s in the state, to assure availability of books to their students and the educational department of the state have now submitted a list of recommended books on advice from the special committee it formed recently. It is among this list of about thousand books, the controversial book which insults Prophet Muhammed [SAW, PBUH] and hurts the religious sentiments of Muslims have been recommended for the students. The book already was banned in about hundred nations.

The Madrasahs were asked to buy these books from the government institution named Book Mark. It was the Malayalam translation of the book which they recommended and as soon as the list reached Madrasah’s, protests have been raised. Many of those Madrasah committees have contacted the government, to review the recommendations.

The Book Mark secretary Babu Kuzhimattom told that they didn’t have any role in the educational department acts and added that the recommendation should be withdrawn as it is an obvious attempt to hurt the religious sentiments of the believers. The Educational department in an attempt to wash their hands of the controversy explained that the left dominated committee had a prime role in suggesting such controversial books.
