28 freed from private Pakistani prison

Islamabad : Twenty-eight peasants, includng 11 children, have been freed from a private prison run by a landlord in Pakistan’s Sindh province.

The police conducted a raid in Badin and found the 28 peasants, including 11 children and 13 women, in the illegal captivity of the local landlord, Geo News reported Monday.

Police said the raid was conducted on the directives of a judge.

The family members of those who were in prison had filed an application stating that the landlord had imprisoned them near Gulab Leghari in his private jail and was using them as forced labour.

The prisoners said that they were not paid for their work.
